University Enterprises, Inc. Announces Intent to Outsource Campus Dining Services

SACRAMENTO, CA, October 8, 2020 – Following a thorough evaluation process, the University Enterprises, Inc. (UEI) Board of Directors approved outsourcing Sacramento State’s campus dining operations to Aramark, subject to completion of contract negotiations. Aramark is a global foodservice provider serving hundreds of colleges and universities throughout North America.

In April, UEI released a request for proposals to several large food service operators. Three proposals were received and a fifteen-member evaluation committee with representatives from across the campus reviewed proposals, conducted interviews, and scored each of the proposers. Aramark received the highest score from the committee and their recommendation was approved by UEI’s Board of Directors.

UEI currently self-operates the residential dining program, most retail dining, catering and athletic concessions for Sacramento State. UEI will continue to manage dining operations through the spring semester and Aramark will assume operational responsibility in July 2021. Aramark will extend employment offers to UEI foodservice employees and employ students at levels equivalent to UEI. Aramark will also bring new brands to campus that scored high in student surveys, including Habit Burger and Pieology.

“As the desire and need for enhanced dining services increase, the experience and resources that Aramark will bring to our campus ensures that students will receive high-quality food options and excellent customer service. Aramark’s ability to meet a broad range of dietary needs and preferences, keep food prices reasonable, meet sustainability goals, and employ a diverse and professional workforce make them an excellent choice for Sacramento State” stated Jim Reinhart, Executive Director for UEI.

Meal Plan Holders Update following COVID-19 closures

Sacramento, Calif., March 19, 2020 – Both the Servery at the Dining Commons and the Courtyard Market are currently open and operating standard hours. However, the Servery will only have “To Go” options due to CDC guidelines limiting gatherings to 10 people or less. If the on-campus resident population declines significantly, the Servery hours may be reduced or it may close and all meal service would be provided by the Courtyard Market

Due to the Covid-19 crisis, students are allowed to cancel their dining contract at any point during the rest of this semester. An exception to the licensing agreement has been made to waive the cancellation fee and reduce the standard 30-day advance notice to ten days. For additional information, please visit the Sacramento State website.
